Justice League #31 Review

Then it looks like it’s time for what I think has to be the first Justice League/Justice Society team-up!

Past, present and future – all in one issue! All under attack under the Legion of Doom and their leader, Lex Luthor. Picking us up exactly from where we left off the last issue we find Flash and GL in the past teaming up with the Justice Society of America to find Starman’s rod. Hawkgirl, Mera, Shayne and Starman working to beat the Legion to the Anti-Monitor. While Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman meeting up with Khamandi in the Future against Brainiac.

Snyder and Tynion fill this issue with twists and turns on every page. Great pacing as we jump from the past to the future and present time every once in a while. Balanced out and keeping us on our toes. Rooting for our heroes as they try and beat the Legion in all three points in time. With the past team caught in a defining moment in history, the present team has to catch up to the Legion and the future team seemingly too late to stop Braniac.

Jimenez always has beautiful artwork and this issue is no exception. Characters are expressive and action scenes are well laid out. Backgrounds are immersive – especially the future scenes, where the world is in ruins. Sanchez’s colours bring true finality to each line drawn and flow wonderfully.

Will history be changed? Is the present destined to fail? Is the Future set in stone? We feel hopeful and worried at the same time this issue – only time will tell!
